Commonwealth Scholarship 2014 - UK students MBBS/ENGG./SOCIAL science etc.

Applications are invited from Indian nationals either on line throughhttp://mhrd.gov.in/ or on plain paper in the specified format for nominations from India for the award of Commonwealth Scholarships in United Kingdom tenable from September/ October 2014 for higher studies/research/specialized training in the subjects mentioned below in the United Kingdom.
Up to Sixty five (65) nominations are to be sent to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for final selection to be made by them. Out of these not more than twenty six (26) are for doctoral studies.
ELIGIBILITY:
The candidate should not be more than 40 years of age as on 11.10.2013 and fulfill the minimum qualifications
LEVEL OF COURSE:
These scholarships will be awarded for studies leading to either: -
(1) SIX MONTHS OF CLINICAL TRAINING (For MBBS, BDS,MS, MD degree; holders only who have qualified as MBBS and BDS between 1st October, 2004 and 30th September, 2009.

*From 1st October 2010, all international medical graduates, including those on Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships, who apply for registration with the GMC will be required to score 7.0 or above in every band of the academic IELTS test.
Applicants in medicine and dentistry whose programme requires them to practice clinically, or to work in a laboratory department reporting on samples from Patents, can be considered only if they are eligible for registration with the General Medical Council or the General Dental Council (Current conditions for registration can be obtained from the GMC and GDC Website:www.gmc-uk.org and www.gdc-uk.org).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The candidates must have completed tertiary education in English Medium:

One should hold or able to produce the certificate of Bachelor's Degree by October, 2014 in the subject field concerned (indicated above) securing 60% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 65% or above marks in Medical, Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture Group. (B) FOR Ph.D. DEGREE:-
One should hold or able to produce the certificate of Master's Degree by October 2014 in the concerned subject fields (indicated above) securing 60% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 65% or above marks in the relevant subjects in Medical, Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture Group.
VALUE OF AWARD
Each scholarship provides:
(A) Student concessionary or other approved airfare to the United Kingdom and return on expiry of the Scholarship (the cost of journey made before final award confirmation will not normally be reimbursed nor can fares be paid for a scholar's dependents).
(B) Approved tuition and examination fees.
(C) A personal maintenance allowance at the rate of £917 per month (£1,134 per month for those studying at institutions in the London Metropolitan area)
(D) A grant towards the expenses of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable.
(E) An initial arrival allowance, incorporating in initial clothing grant for scholars from tropical countries.
(F) A grant for expenses for approved travel within the United Kingdom or overseas.
(G) A grant towards fieldwork costs for those Scholars undertaking doctoral studies for whom a case has been made for fieldwork outside the United Kingdom. This shall not normally exceed one economy class return airfare to the fieldwork location.
(H) A paid mid-term fare to their home country for Scholars on three years doctoral awards. Scholars for whom fieldwork fares are provided to their home country shall not be entitled to a mid-term fare home, nor Scholars who have claimed (or intend to claim) spouse or child allowances for more than 12 months during their award.
(I) For Scholars selected by the Commission for awards exceeding 18 months, a spouse allowance of £ 220 per month is payable provided that the Scholar and spouse are residing together at the same address in the United Kingdom. It is not paid when spouse is also in receipt of an award. For Scholars accompanied by their spouse and children, a child allowance is payable at the rate of £138 per month for the first child and £108 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, provided they are residing with their parents.
The Commission's spouse and family allowances represent only a contribution towards the cost of family maintenance in the UK and Scholars should expect and be able to supplement these allowances to support family members who choose to come to the UK. Irrespective of the length of the award, a Scholar who is widowed divorced or a lone parent will receive an allowance in respect of the first accompanying children and child allowances for the second and third accompanying children.

The last date for applying online is 6th October, 2013. However, hard copy of application alongwith supporting documents should reach the above-mentioned address by 11th October 2013 either by post or by hand.
This announcement is also available on the website www.mhrd.gov.in application form can be downloaded from the site or can also be submitted on line. In case of online submission, the candidates must submit the hard copy of application mentioning the registration number received online and the photograph, attested copies of certificates by 11th october 2013, otherwise it will not be considered.

Candidates are expected to state up to three preferred institutions(s) on the application form, but the final decision on host institution will be made by the Commission. Candidates are advised to submit independent applications directly to their preferred institutions at the same time as applying for this Scholarship. Where formal offers of admission have been obtained, these should be included with the application.
All candidates applying for Doctoral Study must provide the commission with evidence of support from a prospective supervisor at atleast one of their chosen Institutions at the time of application. So, if such support letter is not submitted at the time of interview, he/she will not be allowed to appear before the interview and no TA will be given.

Eight Indian Students Win British Council IELTS Scholarship Award 2013


Eight Indian students have been declared as winners of the British Council IELTS Scholarship Award 2013 and will receive INR 300,000 each towards the cost of tuition fees. Five winners will pursue full-time post-graduate programmes in the UK and three others will study in Australia, Canada and the United States of America.
The British Council IELTS Scholarship Award was launched in the year 2010 with the objective of assisting Indian students intending to study at universities abroad. Over the last three years, 24 students have had the opportunity to study at top Universities overseas through this Scholarship. The British Council IELTS Scholarships are also being awarded in three other Asian countries with total scholarships worth Euro 60000 approximately.
This year, there has been an even spread of winners from across India. Janvi Thaker from Kolkata , Avrina Jos Joslin Thambi from Viluppuram-Tamil Nadu, Gurjot Singh Garcha from Ludhiana, Jahnavi Milind Mirashi from Pune, Sadia Zafar from Navi Mumbai, Shraddha Kaur from Gurgaon, Pramita Roy from Kolkata and Gowri Rastogi from Bangalore.

The State Bank of India Chairman informed the media that they had upgraded SBI branches, all have become air-conditioned. All the branches are adequately staffed now. Last year (in 2012-2013), SBI alone recruited 20,000 assistant grade employees at front office and 1200 Officers asProbationary Officers and Generalist Officers.
Other 19 Public Sector Banks (excluding SBI) recruit Clercks/Officers/ Specialist Officers using the “Common Written Examination” conducted by IBPS. In the Last Financial Year , other public sector banks hired 22,000 officers and 20,000 clerical staff.

IISc : JEE (Main)/NEET(UG) Cut off


The Cut-off scores for admission to the BS Programme at Indian Institute of Science under the JEE (Main) and NEET (UG) Streams have been notified by the Institute. For the JEE (Main) stream, the cut-off marks for selected candidates in different categories are 320 (General); 260 (OBC-NCL); 180 (SC); 108 (ST), 185 (KM) and 185 (PH). Offer letters have been sent by emailto candidates of JEE (Main)), satisfying this stipulation.
In respect of NEET (UG) stream, the cut-off marks for selected candidates in different categories in the NEET (UG) are, 600 (General); 450 (OBC-NCL); 385 (SC); 200 (ST), 400 (KM) and 300 (PH). Offer letters have been sent to these candidates by email. Admission offers based on the performance of applicants in JEE (Advanced) examination will be made later.
A counselling session will be held for the selected candidates on June 29, 2013 at the IISc campus. Candidates offered admission have to participate in the counselling session which is mandatory for confirming the offered seats forthe BS programme.
The first set of offers were made, based on the performance of applicants in KVPY-SA (2011 Fellows), KVPY-SB (2012 Fellows), and KVPY-SX (2012 Fellows), KVPY-SB-E and KVPY-SX-E and a counselling session was held for the selected candidates on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the IISc campus.
All SC/ST/OBC candidates qualified in the KVPY-SA/SB/SX streams had been offered admission. Offers were made to all general category applicants with ranks of up to 283, 10, 292 for the KVPY-SA, SB and SX streams, respectively.

Candidates with All India Rank (AIR) up to 4236 in AIPMT 2012, had got MBBS in the All India Quota (AIQ) in 2012 as per the rank data released by the Medical Council of India and available at http://www.mcc.nic.in/mccres/Documents/LastORCR.pdfThe opening rank in this category was 3.
The last candidate allotted in the OBC category for MBBS had All India Rank 4241 and the first allotment in this category was to AIR 55. In the Scheduled caste Category, the opening and closing AIRs were 871 and 21701. For Scheduled Tribe category, it was 1272 and 29239.

Qualifying Examinations:
Qualifying examinations for the purpose of admission to the first year of undergraduate courses offered by the University shall be Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (Class XII) of the Central Board of Secondary Education or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto.

Students from Vocational / Technical Streams
a. For admission to Bachelor with Honours / BTech as Discipline-I in Arts / Humanities / Commerce subjects, three Academic subjects and one Vocational subject may be taken into account for purpose of determining eligibility for admission to these courses.
b. Academic and Vocational subjects must have the relationship with the main Courses opted by the candidates.

Age Requirement

  • There is no minimum age bar for admission to undergraduate courses in the University / colleges except in professional courses where regulatory body prescribes minimum age requirement (such as MCI, AICTE etc.)
  • Gap year/s would be no bar for purposes of admission to the undergraduate courses.

The candidates who wish to be considered for admission to various Under-Graduate courses in different colleges of the university, for which there is no entrance exam, are required to register either online or offline by completing OMR forms available and to be submitted at following Admission Information Centers in Delhi. There will be no registration / pre-admission form at the college level (online or offline).  Separate registration for CW / Kashmiri Migrants category will take place in Room No. 218, New Administration Block, North Campus. Sports / ECA and Hostel accommodation forms/applications can be collected & submitted in the concerned college.
